UI dance department hosts regional dance festival Feb. 5-8
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa dance department will host the Central
Regional Festival of the American College Dance Festival Association (ACDFA)
Feb. 5-8. Very limited public seating may be available for the festival's
Showcase Concert at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, in the Space/Place Theatre of
North Hall. Admission will be $5.
Very limited seating may also be available for free informal dance showings
4:30-5:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Feb. 6 and 7, in the Large Gym of UI Halsey
Hall. At both the informal showing and the Showcase Concert, it is possible
that all available seating will be taken by conference participants, who will
be given first priority.
The Showcase Concert features dances selected by adjudicators as the finest
works seen among festival entrants. Each school may enter one faculty work
and one student work in the festival competition.
The UI entries are "Nero's Fiddle" by faculty member David Berkey,
which was seen in the UI Dance Company's Dance Gala, performed in November
in Hancher Auditorium; and graduate student Rise Karns' "Church and State,"
which premiered at the department's Space/Place Concert last spring. "Threshold,"

Last season, a UI student dance advanced to the national ACDFA showcase at
the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and UI student Micah Ornstein was

More than 400 faculty members and students from 23 colleges and universities
in Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Missouri
and Wisconsin will come to the UI to participate in the festival. The Central
Regional Festival is one of eight regional ACDFA gatherings.

dance departments to exchange information and creative resources, and also
to measure their creative and performance standards against those at other
