Social media networks connect
the U to you

And then there’s Twitter, a way to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: what are you doing?

But students aren’t the only members of the University of Iowa community linked by social media. Several University of Iowa departments have turned to social media sites as outreach tools for communication with students, alumni, and others interested in the University.

In the Kuhl House on the University of Iowa campus, a small but energetic staff handles acquisitions, manuscript editing, and proofreading, design, production, and marketing for the University of Iowa Press. Constructed around 1840 using limestone that was quarried nearby, the Kuhl House is the oldest house still standing in Iowa City.

Holly Carver
  Holly Carver
No surprise, but Holly Carver loves to read. She also loves sharing good writing with the world, something she gets to do every day as director of the University of Iowa Press, the University’s own publishing house and the only university press in the state of Iowa. Carver spoke to fyi about the business of university publishing, the books that make her proud, and what musical instrument she might take up once she finds the time.

"The level of preparedness is unprecedented. We've been drilling for this potential eventuality, not just for influenza but for other biological emergencies."

Gregory Gray, professor of epidemiology
(Newsweek, April 27)
