Shopping for a new location, offices find home in downtown mall

If you lost your mittens, need an office key replacement, or have a technology meltdown, you'll quickly discover the office you need has a new campus home.

In the past year and a half, offices such as Lost and Found, the Key Shop, and Information Technology Services (and many others) have moved to the University Capitol Centre, a centrally located space shared with the Old Capitol Town Center.

Moving downtown has offered many rewards to the UI offices, from increased visibility and accessibility to bigger spaces and better lunch options.

Forget all the jokes about their illegible signatures—University of Iowa physicians can write. Several physicians at UI Hospitals and Clinics are gathering once a month to share, discuss, and critique their creative writing endeavors—a desirable outlet from their scientific, fact-filled lives.

Bob Kirby
Bob Kirby enjoys staying fit, both in the physical sense as well as the mental. This means his daily activities include mentoring students and matching young minds with research projects, along with working in his garden or climbing mountains. Kirby tells fyi his favorite aspects of his work in the Iowa Center for Research by Undergraduates, the importance of research opportunities for all students, and his own early research projects.

“It’s remarkable that, 23 years after the identification of HIV, there is still denial that the virus is the cause of AIDS.”
